Everyday Science in the Home

Everyday Science in the home
Making hokey pokey - the baking soda has a chemical reaction and makes the sugar go hard

turn the lights on - its converting electricity into light and heat

playing tennis - action reaction, hitting the ball it bounces off the racket

cooking noodles - the boiling water cooks the starch in the noodles and making them soft to eat

mowing the lawns - pulling the starter cord uses kinetic energy

the fridge - using electrical energy  a heat exchanger to remove the heat

TV - electricity to convert the TV signal into a picture

making banana quick- the quick particles dissolves in the milk

tap - gravity makes the water flow

lighting the gas - the gas burns, heats the water which cooks the
food

microwave - the microwave energy heats up food by warming the water

putting the jug on - electricity is used to heat an element which  heats the water

dishwasher - uses the movement of water (friction) to clean the dishes

computer - electricity gets converted to on and off voltages it goes through logic components

telephone - sound gets converted to electrical impulses

Lawnmower - the spark plug creates a spark which ignites the petrol which explodes and drives the piston around

growing vegetables - photosynthesis

compost - food chemically decomposes ( its a chemical reaction )

camera - light goes through a lens and the image is stored

bread making - the yeast mixed with the warm water and sugar starts to grow and makes the dough rise

Open a coke bottle - causes a sudden difference in pressure and the carbonated water erupts through the bottle making bubbles

burning a candle - the wax burns to release light and heat

WiFi - the electromagnetic waves carry the signal and data

stereo - converting electrical impulses into noise

Eating - your body uses the nutrients from the food to power your body

Lightening and Thunder - when 2 cloud masses collide there is electrical discharge

Tides - created by the moons gravitational pull

Day and Night - the earth spinning around on itself as it goes around the sun

Seasons - caused by the angle of the earths axis as it rotates around the sun

boat - it floats by displacing its own weight in water (this is action reaction)
