Tongariro Crossing

On Saturday I woke up at 5:30am and got in the car we drove to the shuttle park. James and I found a perfect walking stick.

The shuttle came but it could only take 5 people so we couldn't get on. Finally the second shuttle came it could take 21 people so we got on and I took the stick with me.

When we got to the start of the track, we started to walk and it was nothing like I thought it would be and it was nice an silent. It took an hour to get to the saddle .

We started to think if we were going to climb to the top of Ngauruhoe and we thought we would give it a go and we started; we didn't go very far until mum and I didn't want to go any further but dad and James kept going. We thought we had gone quite far when we got to the top.

We started to go over a long flat part and we stopped and looked at a water pond and had a rest. We started walking again and we started to climb up a slippery part. There was a chain that you could hold on to too help you get up.

We got to the top of the hill.  I wanted to go to the top of tongariro so we started to climb and it was so windy so we came down. We went down a steep rocky face and stopped and had lunch at the edge of the Emerald lakes.

We walked over the last flat and climbed up the hill and saw the Blue lake. I thought it splendiferous.

Finally we were on our way down, we stopped at the Keretahi Hut and had more food and a toilet stop. We saw where the eruption damaged the hut from 2012.

Walking through the forest we seemed to walk for ages and ages before we finally made it back to the car.

There was lots of amazing scenery but it isn't the sort of thing to rush back and do quickly because it is such a long walk.
